ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਰਹਿਨੁਮਾ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵੀ ਪੂਜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਗਈ। ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਧਰੂ ਤਾਰਾ ਸਨ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਉਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ। ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ। ਉਦਾਰਵਾਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਏਕਤਾ ਸਿਖਾਈ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਕਤਾ ਦੇ ਹਾਮੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਇੱਕ ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਸੋਚ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਐਸੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਰਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੱਦਾਂ ਦੂਰ-ਦੂਰ ਤੱਕ ਫੈਲੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਰਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਧੜਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਜਵਾਨ ਵੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਪੁੰਨ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਵੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹੈਸੀਅਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਵੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਤੋਂ ਗਰੀਬ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਰ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ।ਹਰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ, ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਧਿਆਨ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਵਪਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਫੁੱਲਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਕਸਰ ਨਾ ਛੱਡੀ। ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਹੁਕਮਰਾਨ ਸੀ। ਇਹੀ ਵਜ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਲਾਸਾਨੀ ਰਾਜ ਬਣਾਇਆ।
